El
ser humano habrá inventado la rueda, descubierto la forma de volar, creado esta
maravilla que es Internet, pero en temas sentimentales sigue igual de perdido
que cuando fue expulsado del Jardín del Edén. Complejos, miedos, prejuicios,
hacen que muchas relaciones que te podrían dar la felicidad plena hasta el fin
de tus días terminen por tonterías. Pues bien esta canción, y nosotr@s, creemos
que cuando se te presenta la oportunidad de ser feliz no hay que pensar
demasiado en lo que te deparará dentro de X años, sino hay que vivir el
presente y aprovecharte de cada segundo de pasión, complicidad, deseo y
alegría, y a lo mejor, sin darte cuenta, toda tu vida ha pasado en un segundo y
sin que la sonrisa abandone tu cara.
Billy Joel (al que hemos
tenido en estas entradas) es uno de los más afamados hijos del Bronx neoyorkino que vio la
luz en 1949. Con tan sólo cuatro años de edad empieza sus clases de piano y
deja la escuela para dedicarse profesionalmente a la música. Tras pasar por
varias bandas en 1971 publica Cold Spring
Harbour que a pesar de contener esa maravilla que es She's Got a Way tuvo
unas ventas muy escasas ya que no estaba de moda eso de los cantautores pianistas
que interpretaba sus letras dotadas de gran sentimiento y sencillez. Sin
embargo durante la gira que realizó consiguió un creciente reconocimiento por
lo que es fichado por Columbia y dos años más tarde consigue un enorme éxito
con Piano Man donde con Piano Man
tendrá su primera aparición en las listas y con Captain
Jack una destacada presencia en las radios. Al año siguiente nos regaló
esa perla que es The Entertainer
pero será en 1977 cuando alcanza el estrellato con The
Stranger gracias a temazos como Movin' Out
(Anthony's Song), Only The Good Die
Young, She's Always A
Woman, y la sensacional Just
the Way You Are que es su primera Top3 en listas. Se inicia una época
de grandes canciones como esta The Longest Time,
Honesty, My Life, Big Shot, Goodnight Saigon, Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start
the Fire,
en los que alterna temas románticos y comerciales con otros más duros y
reivindicativos. En los 90 arranca con un homenaje a la música del sur como es The River Of Dreams
y esa nana tan emotiva que es Lullabye
(Goodnight, My Angel), pero tras una disputa con su manager decide que
sus discos ya sólo van a ser recopilatorios, discos grabados en vivo e
interpretaciones de música clásica, lo que nos reporta geniales conciertos pero
nos deja huérfanos de su creatividad.
La
letra nos habla de cómo la llegada del amor hace que sienta felicidad, que se
desate su creatividad y abandone la tristeza. Puede que no dure, pero mientras
tanto no va a dejar de dar gracias de haber encontrado una mujer tan
maravillosa.
La
música es un homenaje a la música doo wop donde la voz aguda del
cantante es acompañada por los coros y con sólo el apoyo del bajo y la caja.
